The Women in Economics Network (WEN) was formed in 2017 to promote and support the careers of female economists in Australia, and create a more gender balanced, equitable and inclusive economics profession.
WEN’s objectives are to:
- professionally connect and support the career development of women in economics
- increase the representation of women at all levels of the economics profession
- promote public contributions by female economists
- encourage the next generation of women to study economics

We have shared the story of the formation of WEN, the evidence-based initiatives that WEN has implemented, and an analysis the impact of WEN on the economics profession in Australia, is available in this following publication:
Taking action to improve gender equality in economics: The creation and impact of the Women in Economics Network in Australia by Rebecca Cassells, Leonora Risse, Danielle Wood and Duygu Yengin (2022)
Find out more about WEN’s activities, resources and events on the WEN website, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook pages.
I am proud to be part of the passionate team of women who have brought the vision of WEN to life and are helping to elevate the contributions of female economists and foster a more equitable and inclusive economics profession in Australia.
